Lyle A. Hopkins
1984 Charter Bandmasters Hall of Fame Inductee
Mr. Hopkins was born April 13, 1910 in Redfield, South Dakota. He studied at Central YMCA College, Sherwood Music School, American Conservatory, and Vander Cook. He received a masters degree in music education from the University of Indiana.
He was teaching at Sherwood in 1937. He was director of the band at Thornton High School for 30 years, from the early 40s to early 70s. He directed the South Holland Municipal band for "over 20 years" beginning in 1967 until he stepped down owing to his wife's illness. He died March 26, 1993 in South Holland where he had lived for over 30 years.
